Was Hogwarts Legacy made using Unreal Engine 5?

No, Hogwarts Legacy was not designed using the Unreal Engine 5 system. Instead, Unreal Engine 4 was most likely used since the game’s development had started as early as 2018. Unreal Engine 5 was also only recently released in April 2022, which makes it more favorable in the creation of next-gen exclusive projects. A previous job listing for Hogwarts Legacy from Avalanche Software had also listed UE4 as one of its requirements further solidifying its use in the game’s creation.

Early clips have shown a meticulously detailed Hogwarts castle along with its expansive grounds and forests. Its well-designed surroundings have also only served to increase the ever-growing hype for the game.

With this in mind, even though the developers used an older version of the popular visual design tool, the snippets of gameplay that have already been shown seem to indicate that they were able to use it to its fullest extent.
