The Pokemon franchise has been an unstoppable force for over twenty years. It has a wide range of successful properties across multiple media like animation, movies, and especially video games. There have been 122 released games in the Pokemon franchise, which have introduced dozens of characters, stories, and Pokemon for players to fall in love with and collect.

PokemonScarlet and Violetare the most recent installments in the franchise and bring an innovative wonder and an all-new generation of Pokemon, with over a hundred new creatures for players to discover. Among Pokemon creatures to catch, collect, and battle, players can also search high and low for unique variants called “Shiny” Pokemon, which feature different coloration than the usual variants. Shiny Pokemon are incredibly rare and take dedication to find, but they possess striking visual designs that die-hard collectors will want in their collections. Here are the best Shiny Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet.


8/8 Quaxly

Upon loading in either the Scarlet or Violet version of the newest Pokemon games, players will have to choose a starter Pokemon. One of the available starters is Quaxly, a Water-type called the Duckling Pokemon.

Quaxly is a wonderful first edition to a fledgling Pokemon master, and can more than carry its own weight as it accompanies a player on their journey. Quaxly can be chosen at the start of the game but can also be caught in the wild. However, to obtain a shiny version of Quaxly, which appears with a unique shade of blue in its feathers, players must be fortunate and obtain one through proper breeding.

Charcadet is a Fire-type known as the Fire Child Pokemon. While it’s a common find in the wild of the Paldea region, Charcadet’s shiny version will take some conviction when exploring the Asado Desert. Plenty of Charcadet can be hunted in this area, but with a bit of help from a shining sandwich and some luck, players will find one of the best-looking shiny Pokemon to own. The shiny sprite is similar to the original, but with blue eyes instead of red.

Charcadet is a significantly strong party member and has two different evolutionary branches which influence its appearance, especially when a shiny variant. Players may lean toward the Ceruledge evolution for its unique hints of blue in its flames.

In appearance, Toedscool is a Pokemon similar to that of Tentacool. The difference is that Toedscool is a Grass/Ground type Pokemon called the Woodear Pokemon.

Toedscool can usually be found most often near Casseroya Lake with little effort. Shiny versions of this pokemon will stand out should they appear for their unique color tone. The shiny version of Toedscool has a distinct silver and gray color tone that make it a very desirable addition to any trainer’s Pokedex.

Rellor is the rolling Pokemon, a Bug-type that has a design similar to a dung beetle that pushes around a ball of scrap. The shiny version of Rellor gives it the same basic color scheme, but turns the ball that it pushes around into gold.

The perks of a shiny version go even further into Rellor’s evolution, Rabsca, in which its altered ball has popping color that stands out. Rellor can be located in a number of places in the Paldea region, but most commonly appear in the Asado Desert.

The shiny versions of both Tinkatink and its evolution Tinkatuff can be hunted in the wild. This dual Fairy/Steel type Pokemon is known for the massive hammer it swings around for protection, which is made from scraps the Tinkatink has gathered.

Shiny Tinkatink has a pink color palette, which changes the tint of its hair design. It also changes the color of the metal diamond embedded in its chest, as well as its hammer, from silver to gold. Tinkatink can be found in the South Province and Grand Olive Orchard, while Tinkatuff is mainly found in the ruins in northwestern Paldea.

3/8 Iron Thorns

Iron Thorns is a unique Pokemon by itself in Scarlet and Violet, with one of the coolest designs in the game. It is similar to the Gen 2 Pokemon Tyranitar, but highly evolved with new technological features. Iron Thorns is a dual Electric/Rock-type Pokemon that can only be found in Area Zero in Pokemon Violet. Pokemon Scarlet players can only get it through a trade.

Iron Thorns maintains Tyranitar’s green scales, but alters its highlighted sections to silver from emerald green. The shiny version turns the exterior silver, keeping the green highlights. Known as a Paradox Pokemon, Iron Thorns is speculated to be a time-traveled Pokemon from the distant future where Tyranitar has evolved beyond recognition.

2/8 Chi-yu

Chi-Yu is a member of the Treasures of Ruin, modeled after a colorful fish that explores the deepest parts of the seas. Surprisingly enough, Chi-Yu is not a Water-type, but a Fire/Dark dual type with orange and red scales.

The shiny version of Chi-Yu can not be hunted in the wild, as Chi-Yu is a legendary Pokemon that can only be encountered after receiving a quest from the trainer’s history teacher. Players must unlock a mythical fire shrine and take on Chi-Yu in a battle in order to obtain it. A shiny Chi-Yu has an incredibly cool design that turns its scales from orange and red to blue and black.

Frigibax is an Ice/Dragon-type Pokemon with a gray and yellow design, known as the Ice Fin Pokemon. Frigibax can most commonly be found in caves in Glaseado Mountain or surrounding snowy areas.

While finding a shiny Pokemon is difficult enough, finding a shiny Frigibax is an even more challenging task, as it is a rare spawn within both games. Players will have to dig deep to come across a regular Frigibax, let alone his shiny variant. Frigibax is a phenomenal Pokemon that has three stages of evolution. While its body is typically gray and black, the shiny version flips this color scheme and makes Frigibax stand out even more.
