Marvel’s Wolverine got a few great costume designs over the course of the 2022 year that will go down as some of the best he’s worn this decade!
In Marvel Comics, Wolverine is one of the most badass X-Men characters around, with a great visual design that has stood the test of time as one of the most iconic and well-known looks in all of comicdom. And now, thanks to a stellar 2022, Logan has gotten some of the best costumes he’s ever had!
A hero that needs no introduction, Wolverine aka Logan aka James Howlett is a member of Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants, the X-Men, and has been a popular character in the nerd community since his inception in 1974. Bursting onto the scene with a look that gave him a more feline-esque mask as well a yellow and blue color scheme he still wears today, Wolverine has seen his fair share of subtle adjustments and tweaks to his original costume, even donning an equally iconic and much-loved brown and tan look in the ‘80s that mimics his first suit almost identically.
Yet in 2022, Logan outdid himself in the cosmetic department as not only did he receive more than a few wardrobe upgrades in comics but acquired even more unique looks from a fanart perspective that proves Wolverine’s fashion sense transcends the comic medium and lives rent-free in the consciousness of fans everywhere with new designs popping up all the time (and as seen below). And thanks to 2022’s X Lives of Wolverine/X Deaths of Wolverine event, by Benjamin Percy, Joshua Cassara, and Federico Vincentini, the return of Marvel’s supernatural team in Midnight Suns, by Ethan Sacks and Luigi Zagaria, and even a “Demonized” variant cover by Ryan Stegman for Wolverine #29, Wolvie has truly outdone himself with his choice in costumes this past year!
2022 Was a Great Year For Wolverine Costumes
Seen in the pages of X Lives of Wolverine/X Deaths of Wolverine, this story focuses on a cybernetic “Omega” Wolverine traveling back in time to murder one of the X-Men’s own, giving Logan a circuit board-textured suit and computer-controlling claws in the process, while also doubling as proof of Wolverine embracing the AI race known as the Phalanx. Next up, courtesy of Midnight Suns, Wolverine gets a very X-Force-esque color swap, going with a red and black armored suit and magically upgraded claws that are just as brutally effective as they sound. Finally, on the “Demonized” cover of Wolverine #29, Logan gets a terrifying look that turns him into a literal demon. Coming across like a version of DC Comics’ Superman villain, Doomsday, with his rocky/hard-shelled skin and protruding bone accents and claws, Wolverine’s design here isn’t one to be taken lightly, especially considering he’s been completely transformed by his new look in a way fans haven’t seen before.
So while the majority of Wolverine’s costumes from the past decade have either fine-tuned or subtly tweaked his existing designs, this handful of new suits are a unique and welcome addition to Logan’s superhero wardrobe that hopefully will be seen again. No costume may ever come close to topping Wolverine’s go-to yellow and blue spandex, but it’s good to know he’ll still look as badass as ever with these other options too!
